For the past 4 years I have been incorporating 8 Sets Of 8 into my workout program and every time I complete the 4 weeks of training I am amazed at how incredibly effective it is for not only burning fat but I always seem to add a bit of muscle during this phase as well. Believe me, I’m not the only one who has experienced tremendous fat burning results from this program. Does the name Arnold Schwarzenegger ring a bell?
Yes you heard me right. Arnold was just a huge slab of meat before he used the 8 sets of 8 workout program. He was introduced to the program by it’s creator, Vince Gironda. Vince was known to help bodybuilders achieve the definition and ‘cuts’ that are necessary to win a contest, especially the Mr. Olympia.
Now you can take advantage of this amazing program to chisel away the fat from the muscle and sculpt a masterpiece. The great thing about 8 sets of 8 is that it’s very time efficient. I’m in and out of the gym in less than 30 minutes tops when I follow this program.
In order to get the maximum results from the program you have to perform the routine properly. I’ve put together a video which demonstrates the proper way to do 8 sets of 8.

The key is choosing the right amount of weight. This is what separates the people who are willing to do what it takes to achieve a sculpted physique from the ones who are ego driven and are obsessed with stacking large amounts of weight on a bar. Check your ego at the door guys.
The weight that you lift in the 8 sets of 8 program is much lighter than what you would typically lift for the exercise. In this program you choose a weight for a particular exercise and you use that same weight for all 8 sets.
To really maximize this type of training you should use a rest period of 15 to 45 seconds between sets. Believe me, your heart will be thumping, your muscles will be pumping, and you will be sweating buckets, especially on leg day.
I guarantee that I am getting a better cardiovascular workout on this program than everyone on the treadmill or stepper.
Typically I will choose 3 exercises for the major body parts and 2 for the smaller body parts and I work no more than 2 body parts per day.
Whether you are a male or female, if you want to burn fat this is definitely a program that you want to use for 4-6 weeks of your fat burning phase.

I am starting my weight training tonite and decided to give the 8 sets of 8 a try for 4 weeks…but I have a few questions…
Do you lift every day working 2 body parts or are their days off in between?
So if day 1 is chest and biceps…do you only use one exercise to work the chest and one exercise to work the biceps? Meaning 8 sets of 8 doing the chest press…then the chest workout is done for the day. Then doing 8 sets of 8 doing the bicep curl…then the bicep workout is done for the day.
Hi Michele, I’m glad to hear that you are are going to begin the 8 sets of 8 program.
Like I said in the article… for the major muscles like the chest I typically do 3 different exercises such as bench press, incline dumbbell press and fly’s.
Then for the smaller groups such as biceps triceps and shoulders I do 2 different exercises.
I would pair up Chest and Triceps, Back and Biceps, Shoulders and abs, Legs on their own.
If you are a beginner then you could get away with 2 exercises for the major muscle groups and 1 for the smaller groups.

I don’t follow a schedule for cardio. I just go with my hearts content.

LOL,
Ya pyramid training can definitely be a shock to your body if you haven’t done it in a while. I love them and have included them in the year of workouts for both The Fit Chic & The Fit Bastard.
I recommend that everyone use them for 4 weeks out of the year.
You can count on me doing an article about pyramid training and the benefits.
Hey Quit your whinning Rob 😉
