Poll: When Do You Find Time For Exercise?
By Rob
Exercise can be done nearly any time of day. Morning Cardio or weight training can be done before work, on an empty stomach to burn more fat, or if you’re especially rushed, can be done over a lunch hour while at work. Popular gym times are also in the early evenings before supper as people working out are on their way home for the day. Then there are the evening trainers who get to their workouts after supper because it’s the only time they have left.
Stay at home moms find a way to fit exercise into their busy schedule in their basement, front room or improvise a workout at the park while the kids play on the jungle gym.
I’ve always said that there is no wrong time to train, just better times. Never exercise on a full stomach because your body is busy digesting and try not to exercise before bed because the body wants to settle down for the evening.
Everyone is different, we all have our reasons for training when we do. It fits into our schedule, it’s easier, or we have to get it done before the end of the day to support our goals.
I’m curious:
as always, leave a comment with your thoughts about the best time to train or anything else.

I exercise first thing in the morning for many reasons:
1) My resistance is low. Brain… foggy…
2) Nothing has happened yet that could seem more important.
A thousand things could keep me from going at lunch!
3) Empty stomach, burn more fat.
4) Nice to get it out of the way and sail through my day kinda proud of myself.
5) My energy level is higher for the rest of the day after exercising so the earlier I workout, the longer I get to enjoy that feeling.

I’ve always preferred to exercise first thing in the morning, because then I know it gets done. But recently I’ve been working out after work, so that my husband and I can do it together. That has its good and bad points, but I’m surprised to find I can adapt to any schedule.

Marla, your comment about “good and bad points” to working out with your spouse. Love to hear them.
It actually brings up another poll and an entire article on the subject.
Would LOVE your input!

Is there an option 6) All of the above?
I generally do something (even if it’s only a 10-minute session) several times a day.

Scott, so you’re saying that you spread out several short workouts through the day?
is that just the way it works out, or do you have a plan in place to do that for some specific benefit?
you’ve got me thinking now

Rob,
They’re not specific, planned workouts - but I stay within the parameters I’ve already defined for my training. For example, if I only have 10 minutes available, I might go and do some chin-ups and barbell rows (these work well together, incidentally). No extra weight on the chins, medium grip - nice and simple, and quick.
If I have a little more time available, I’ll do things which take a bit longer to work up to. Something like deadlifts, or bench presses.
For a full-length session (an hour or so), I’ll just follow the normal daily routine. In my case, that’s pretty close to a powerlifting routine - but it could be anything at all.
Overall it’s somewhere inbetween ‘the way it works out’ and ‘plan in place’. I’ve just modified my gym time to suit my own work/leisure pattern.
