How To Begin Training With Kettlebells – Podcast

When I made the decision to take up Russian Kettlebell training, I only had a vague idea of where to start so I thought I’d put this podcast together so that you’d be able to follow along with me in my journey. I’ve known about Russian Kettlebells for a few years now but did not see the advantage or where I could work them into my program. I’ve now been enlightened by Scott Bird’s Straight To The Bar website, videos and Kettlebell information.

I have now “seen the light” as it were and have been fully immersed in the advantages of kettlebell training.
Training With Kettlebells

What Are Kettlebells?

Scott wrote a nice introduction to kettlebells a few weeks ago entitled Buying Your First Kettlebell, so I wont to into much more detail about them, however I would like to point out some very basic facts just to prep you for the podcast.

.can you see it?.

I hope you have been setting goals for yourself.
I hope that you have been WRITING THEM DOWN and reading them often. I hope that if you haven’t started, you will right now!!! hahhahaha
I can not stress the importance of goal setting enough. I always thought that I was goal orientated in the past, I knew what I wanted to accomplish, and left it at that. They really became passing thoughts that I would beat myself up for later. It is important to SEE your goals!!!! It’s important to see YOURSELF at your goals…
I know I wouldn’t play the lottery if the undetermined jackpot was worth less than the ticket.

To get myself to where I know I belong I am willing to put in the effort….I am willing to , learn, to try, to fuckin sweat!!! And that is really the key factor to achieving any goal you set out for yourself….you gotta taste it.

Cardio is getting me results. There is no question that the increase in activity has had an incredible impact on my body. I want more than that, I want to see results faster, faster, faster!!! I want to see what those machines over there do!!!
I received three personal training sessions with my gym membership and decided to put them to use.
“I will just get them to show me the machines and that’s it” I told myself.

As soon as I talked with Diana on the phone I knew we had chemistry. It wasn’t awkward, it was a “cool, lets hang out on Tuesday” feel. We hit it off right away, sharing the same sense of humor and sarcastic edge. Diana is absolutely full of life and very energetic.

Oh, she’s mine for sure….BOOKED…
I’m soooo worth it!!!

Buying your first kettlebell

Kettlebells are great things. If you need any convincing, just take a look at Tracy Reifkind’s site. Her transformation has been nothing less than amazing.

Once you’ve decided to try a little kettlebell training – particularly if you’re working out at home – there’s one question to answer :
Missy

Which one should I get?

I’m glad you asked.

One Serious Commitment To Weight Loss

This is the most incredible email I have ever gotten in my life. This is from a good friend of mine Angela Murray and shortly after receiving it, I realized she was not asking a question, but sending me her commitment to taking action on her goal. She clearly lists what she’s willing to do, she’s open to feedback and direction, stated what she knows and what she doesn’t know, has taken measurements and she’s journaling the entire process. This is what she sent me:

OK! Here is my weakness, holding myself accountable for working out, eating right and drinking water. I want to have a healthy hot body so bad, yet when ever I attempt to do something about it, I sluff off, de-commit. I just measured myself, WOW, this is my heaviest ever (other than pregnant phase)

one serious commitment to weight loss

Weight: 132 lbs

Inches
Neck: 13″
Upper left arm: 10.5
Upper right arm: 10.75
Bust: 33.25
Diaphragm: 29.5
Waist: 36
Abdomen: 36
Buttocks: 37.5
upper Left thigh: 21.5
Upper Right thigh: 22
Calf left: 12.75
Calf right: 12.75
Upper knee left: 15.5
Upper knee right: 15.5

I understand that not all my inches will decrease as I build muscle, I feel my legs are in pretty good shape, I want to build more muscle mass.

I am COMMITTING to Mon,Wed, Fri to weight work out, Tues, Thurs, Sat to walking, cardio.

I am increasing my protein, decreasing my carbs, drinking more water. I will journal my daily activity and food each night before I go to sleep.

I will be kind to myself, love myself and enjoy this journey.

I have no “measurable” goal to reach as I have very little idea what is healthy, I would love to be 118 lbs but have no idea how much muscle that is or body % of fat.

All I know is I want more energy, to look fucking Fabulous, feel good inside and hot and be healthy about my choices.

I am open to suggestions, tips, feedback and any other offers you have!

I respect you and trust you and I know we can depend on each other for kicks in the ass or celebrating words.

I realize it is one more thing on your plate, as it is on mine, you don’t need to hold my hand every day, and feel free to say when you are busy and don’t have time to answer my question, just kick me with loving supportive words to keep me going.

Thank you Coop! I am totally ok with you saying No to this too, just so you know!

I am off to journal and get a good night sleep!

Nighty Night!

What Not To Do In The Gym

You may be new to the gym or an old time lifter, but regardless of how much time you’ve spent in the gym, there are things that you might do to piss people off, or be one of those that gets pissed off. Want to learn about Gym Etiquette?

Gym Rules - What Not To Do In The Gym

There’s this sort of unwritten rule about what you should and should not do in the gym, from what you’re wearing to how you smell. It’s called Gym Etiquette, and believe me, if you piss someone off, they may be very vocal about expressing it to you. I’ve seen fights and near fights in the gym and have been “attacked” myself by two fellows

So what are the rules? What should you absolutely not do in the gym, and more importantly why? Are these rules universal or just at your gym?

I am putting out the word about this post so that I may get input from gym members, gym owners, personal trainers, old time lifters and newbies. My goal is to get 100 comments with your personal rule, or wannabe rule. I’ll take what is presented and see what I can do about making a full document about Gym Etiquette. It will become the World Resource for What Not To Do In The Gym.
