So…you wanna sweat?

OH HI GUYS!!!!!!

A few days ago I offered up a two week trial pass to Gold’s Gym, Edmonton, to someone who is ready to take action on their health and is ready to take action NOW!!

This is the gym that I play in all week and I can not express to you enough how much I LOVE IT!!!
The staff is amazing, the equipment is top of the line, and the atmosphere is incredible.
They now have two locations open in the city. Westmount and West Edmonton Mall. Both locations are 24 hour facilities and offer extras such as childcare, tanning, juice bar, and of course group classes.

Now, I have been wondering how to generate more interest with my original offer, but could not seem to close the deal.
The answer to this was delivered right to my door this morning…yep, handed right to me in a pretty envelope. There is no such thing as coincidence, something I am coming to terms with quickly…

Let’s sweeten up the deal, shall we….

Book review : Light on Yoga

This was the first book I ever purchased on Yoga, and it’s easily the most comprehensive. Well before the exercises begin is a history of the art itself, and a number of concepts which may sound unfamiliar to many.

Basic Yoga Principles

Before you make a dive for the yoga mat, take a look at the sections on the basic principles. These pages cover everything from breathing to preparing yourself mentally and physically for the work itself. There’s a lot of great information in there.

Yoga Exercises

Each exercise (and there are several hundred in the book) is depicted in great detail, with a photograph or two illustrating the pose. The information covers precisely how to move in and out of each pose, what to do when you’re not quite able to reach a particular point; and when to perform it.

The book also states – and this is perhaps the most important part of the description – what to expect whilst you’re holding the pose. What will stretch, where you’ll automatically put your weight; how you’ll feel.

Medical conditions

This is where the book really distinguishes itself. Based upon the experiences of his pupils whilst working as a teacher (for no less than 25 years), the author suggests groups of exercises which will aid various medical conditions. These conditions include such things as Arthritis, Asthma, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes and many, many more.

NB : There is no suggestion in the book that these exercises will magically cure the conditions; they can, however, help enormously.

Summary

Overall, it’s a fantastic book. If you’ve ever considered the possibility of Yoga but are not quite sure what it’s all about; Light on Yoga gives you a great look into this amazing world. You won’t be disappointed.

NB : This review was written based upon the 2001 paperback edition of this book. The current edition has included additional – equally valuable – information.

You’re doing what?

I’m losing a bunch of fuckin weight….that’s what!!!

In 5 short weeks I have said goodbye to 21 pounds. TWENTY ONE POUNDS!!!!!!!!
That is the average weight of an eight month old baby!! I have gone from a size 24 to a “just a smidge too tight” 20.
I’m a little excited….can you tell?
I feel fantastic and my energy level is through the roof. I am more confident with myself, my clothes are falling off and people are actually starting to notice my weight loss. I have been on the receiving end of some interesting comments over the past few days..
“Did you do something different with your hair cause your face looks skinnier”
“Holy crap those pants are baggy”
“Are you wearing contacts, because your eyes look huge”
“Have you been working out?”
“Whats going on with your boobs? I thought they were bigger”
“Are you taking diet pills or something?”

HAHAHAHAHAHA I love my friends.

Twenty one pounds is A LOT, so I should probably stop here, hey?

PFFFFFFFFT YEAH RIGHT!! Not this girl…
I’m not even a quarter of the way to my goal weight. Watching that scale go lower and lower each week gives me motivation to keep going. And I can assure you that I will continue to see those numbers decline. I’m a woman on a mother fuckin mission, and nothing short of a sherman tank is going to stop me on this one. I know this because I know myself.

I am not going to sugar coat it for you and say that these past few weeks have been all rainbows and butterflies. It has been some seriously hard work, and it has been emotionally draining at times. I have obstacles and set backs just like everyone else but I continue to push forward, because I know the payoff will be massive.

The gym that I play in has a motto, “Change your Body, Change your Life, Change your World.” I am loving the changes, I am loving the effect they are having on my life, my body, my family, and even my relationships. I really have no idea why I didn’t start all of this sooner.

So what exactly is “all of this” ?
Oh man, I’m soooooo glad you asked….

Women of Sparta

Have you seen the “movie 300“? If you haven’t now may be a good time. The strength displayed in the movie was not far off from the actual truth. But what about the women of Sparta. What were they like? Well, I thought I would do a little research on who were they were, what made them different and what kind of strength they had? What you are about to discover will amaze you.Spartan Women

From infancy, girls were given almost the same treatment as the boys. In their society girls were as much a part of the Spartan strength as the boys. When a new Spartan was born she or he was given their first bath in wine. This was to detect the strength of the baby. If the baby was weak it would die soon after. If the baby lived, it was then taken to the council for a visual inspection so to speak, and yes, just like in the movie, if the baby was insufficient or had imperfections it was tossed over the cliff.

This was a very strong nation by choice, and although their actions may seem strange and harsh to us, it was these very actions that ensured the strength of their nation. In my eyes, the Spartan women had to have the strength of a bear on the inside. I mean, I would have jumped down the cliff after my child no matter what the deficiency was. But I’m a little crazy like that. I’m big on kids.
