When most people are under the weather, they reach for NeoCitran or their trusty Vitamin C tablets and echinicia. There are a number of reasons not to use Vitamin C products because of the possible damage they can do to your health; what was once considered to be the norm may well be contributing to the problem. Darlene and I choose the practice of reducing our food intake and increase Vitamin C through fresh fruits in addition to our staple Sunrider Vitafruit. This way we reduce the load on our digestive systems and increase Vitamin C through food. Today happens to be one of those days, so I thought I’d do a little research about vitamin C containing fruit.
Without doing the research and simply going from memory, I’d have to guess Oranges and Kiwi as being the highest.
Here’s what I found out. According to Dr Sears,

Top 7 Fruits For Vitamin C Content
- Guava, 1 medium, 165 mg
- Papaya, 1 cup, 87 mg
- Strawberries, 1 cup, 84 mg
- Kiwi, 1 medium, 74 mg
- Cantaloupe, 1 cup, 68 mg
- Orange, 1 medium, 75 mg
- Grapefruit, half, 42 mg
My Oranges and Kiwi come in at number 4 and 6. Why I didn’t think of grapefruit I don’t know. Guava happens to be the fruit that is highest in Vitamin C.

I asked the question Do You Eat Breakfast ? back in October and of the people who voted, 79% said that they do. The benefits of eating breakfast are plenty and when Christina began the conscious effort to eat when she woke up, she found that she had more energy through the day, was more emotionally balanced and ate less in the evenings. She lost 5 pounds in the first two weeks of beginning the new practice and burned the phrase “eat breakfast and lose weight” into her brain.

Today I read DoshDosh’s question on twitter about liquid breakfasts which then got me thinking about what people choose as liquid breakfasts. I’ve done them all, coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, raw egg whites, protein shakes with EFA’s. In a few months I’ll be getting out my juicer and doing a bunch of green smoothies a la the Former Fat Guy but these days it’s a traditional breakfast along with Sunrider Nuplus, Quinary and Calli tea.
I know why people choose liquid breakfasts - convenience. My question today is

I’m sure there are a lot of other options for liquid breakfasts so if you’ve got one, pass it along. If it’s a green smoothie or home made protein shake recipe, leave it in the comments.
I’m officially taking up more interest in twitter now. Eating when read in a dictionary refers to the consumption of food for nutrition. Consumption yes but at an intense rate. Once again, our lifestyles dictate what food we are consuming but also the amount of time we consume it in.
Let me tell you about the ‘ah ha’ moment I had today.
It came to me while I was out doing an errand and at of all places, a food court and discreetly watched those around me “eating”.
Ever hear yourself say,
I was starving; I didn’t even taste the food. I inhaled it!

Many experts agree that doing cardio first thing in the morning can burn fat 300% faster while others say that interval training with bodyweight exercises is as effective or more effective than cardio.
The never ending question of the best way to burn fat has proponents on both sides of the fence. Then there are those who think that to have the best health, one should do both cardio and weight training. Weight training to build muscle, strength and bone density and then cardio to improve heart and lung health.
What are your thoughts?

Green leafy vegetables are of the highest nutritional value, and the thing that many of eat the least of in our diets. Most people think “salad” or spinach when you say leafy greens, but have you ever tried and of the following: kale, Swiss chard, collards, dandelion greens, bok choy, or mustard greens? They are not only nutritious in the highest sense of the word, they are very tasty and versatile foods. Some can be a bit bitter to eat raw, but try steaming them with a bit of lime juice and apple cider vinegar for a great, easy meal - or try this Red Swiss Chard recipe as a great side dish.
