Sportline pedometers

Postby bohemiandream on Sat Jun 09, 2007 9:44 pm

I bought a sportline brand pedometer and noticed last night that any movement at all registered as steps on the read out. I thought it may just be defective so I replaced it with another of the same brand but it also registered any movement as steps. So for future referances , anyone wanting to start on the 10,000 steps a day might want to pass on sportline for a pedometer. Since Rob and Turtle seem to be having good luck with the Timex, I'm going to go that route also.

Thanks for the info as I am considering joining this walking club. Let us know what you think of the timex pedometer as I may end up buying one myself. :)

Cheers

I haven't been able to find a Timex in any of the sports stores here so I went looking online and I found this web site that has a consumer report on the top rated pedometers. It also has some other articles of interest. I don't know how to add a link on this forum but here's the web address to get to it. http://walking.about.com/cs/measure/tp/pedometer.htm

Hi guys. I think I've solved the mystery to the pedometer problem. I purchased yet another pedometer. A Brunton this time. On the instruction sheet there was a section about pedometers in general that stated "To register every step the pedometer uses a built in pendulum." So it stands to reason any movement, could (and as I have experienced, does) cause the pendulum to swing therefore giving a false reading. I think digital is the way to go for accuracy.

Yes, it registers any movement except for stepping on a stair climber!! I wore mine while I was training on the Cybex ArcTrainer and no steps were counted.

The timex seems to be fine Michele. I'm happy with it so far. It doesn't come off my belt ever. I record the steps on my calendar and then reset it first thing in the morning
