Postby St_Sinner on Thu Sep 13, 2007 4:47 am

Hi guys, i'm st_sinner, weighs 220lbs and 28 years old. been reading the posts on your site for weeks already and i think it's about time that I open up and tell people how much i need to tell you to help me lose weight. How have you been guys motivated to do strenuous exercise? how many repetitions do you make? what do you eat? just a few questions on my mind so that i could be inspired and start my way to be thin.

Welcome Welcome Welcome! Always great to have another person join our family!

What I am finding out is that different things work for different people. I can tell you what I am doing now as my goal is to be healthy and burn fat. See http://www.formerfatguyblog.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=299&p=2681#p2681. It explains what 8 sets of 8 are.

What motivates me? I want to be healthier. I see people getting diseases (including cancer) and I want to do what I can to avoid that. I don't know what all of the answers are but I am really beginning to have fun figuring it out. Trying new things and seeing what works.

That is what motivates me but the better question is what motivates you? Think of something that brings on a strong emotion for you. Maybe you want to feel sexier? (ok, you caught me, that is also one of my motivations ;) )

What to eat? Well, I just did a Inner Biochemist test and found out I am a sugar burner. I was emailed the foods to really avoid and what foods work well for me to try and bring my inner biochemistry back to balance.

What have you tried in the past for food plans and exercise?

Hi SS

you dont start with strenuous exercise, you work your way there. Yes, exercise is required for burning fat and getting the shape of body that we want. Anyone who thinks they can have a successful program without exercise is fooling themselves.

However, you don't just jump into the gym and deadlift 400 pounds! You start with 50 pounds and do that for 6 weeks, then you do 55 pounds or 60 for 6 weeks, then you do 65 pounds

Beginning is the key. Start. Do something.

It might be going for a walk. I started with walking when I was 375 pounds. Then I began to add 1 pound ankle weights, then after a few months, added 2.5 pounds ankle weights and put the 1 pound weights on my wrists. Then when I got to 188, I began weight lifting.

My bench press was 40 pounds and my squat was 70 pounds. Certainly not where it is today after 15 years.

Thinking that it has to be strenuous may be what's blocking you.

Imagine instead going out to do 15 minutes of light exercise. Keep that firmly in your mind. Light exercise and only 15 minutes.

Then agree that once you're warmed up and if you feel better and have a little more time, that you would do another 15 minutes of a little more effort.

Fair enough?

Being by agreeing to do 15 mins of light exercise and that if you feel good, would consider doing 15 minutes more.

Then at the 15 minute point, just make a choice. Continue with a little more effort, or stop and go home satisfied that you did 15 minutes. Then come and write it into the daily success area of this forum
