Nette's Awesome Fitness Journey

Postby Fitness Nette on Thu Jun 07, 2007 6:20 am

I’m always excited to see another online resource for support, information and camaraderie.

I’m 29, MWF, 177 lbs, 5’11, proud mom of a 4 legged giant, newlywed, self-proclaimed optimist, fitness nerd and weekend warrior.

My story isn’t much different than everyone else’s. I was an athlete in high school and continued at a high activity level in college until ankle pain and subsequent surgery sidelined me. After that the weight slowly started to add up. Years later and after a divorce at the age of 27 I topped the scale at 239 (I’m 5’11). Through a corporate challenge at work I started the Body For Life program (similar in concept to Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle) and I’ve subsequently lost 80 lbs. I was at my lowest weight of about 158. I then proceeded to pack on the muscle and was up to about 165-170 and 17% body fat.

I recently got married and added a few pounds back on between the wedding and honeymoon and from just letting things slack in the nutrition and exercise part of my routine. So I’m getting back on the wagon and excited to share my experience and soak up knowledge from the rest of you great folks!!

Starting June, 11:

Goal: 1) Drop 10 pounds in 8 weeks 2) Decrease body fat% by .5%. 3) Incorporate more veggies and fruit into each meal. 4) Twice a week get out and exercise outside and enjoy the summer weather.

Awesome Nette, welcome to the forum.

Ah yes, the Body For Life program. I had forgotten about that one. Going to add it as a sub forum on the weight loss programs menu. I had the opportunity to interview Bill's older brother Shawn Phillips on my radio show back in 2003. It's one of my favorite interviews. I've got a short 5 min clip of the interview at my Shawn Phillips page. Funny, I'm just listening to that clip as I write this and I still laugh about how nervous I was at the beginning of the show. I think I had just gotten out of the hospital after having a clot in my lung. also, if you're going to go listen to it keep in mind that I was having major technical difficulties during the first 5 mins of the show. I could barely hear my guest and had to have my producer disconnect and reconnect the line during a technical break I had to take to fix it up. The conversation seems a bit "off" in the first 5 mins because of this. I just could not hear him.

I like that you've got the goals listed there too as Michele says. When you want to truly achieve your goals, tell someone and become accountable.

Geesh, the interview clip is cracking me up. I could hardly breathe (after having just gotten out of the hospital), and I couldn't hear him... lol.

fyi, the full interview package is available at fat loss insider secrets (shameless plug)

Nette, I've had this picture of you open and on my screen for about 4 hours now while I was talking on the phone. Congratulations doesn't cut it. You've transformed yourself... and why you think you should have your diet pimped is beyond me. Seems like everything you've done is totally on target.

I am totally stunned and VERY happy to have had you post your before and after pics.
I know of so many women who stick to cardio and don't get into weight training. There's something about a woman who begins to weight train that's just so sexy.

I want to bust some myths... I want to bust them big.. and get more women weight training. The myth I want to bust is that working out heavily with weights will build big muscles.. and that's just not true. Women have an abundance of estrogen, not Testosterone. Increasing weights for women simply builds lean shapely muscles.

What I like about women who train and lift is that they're committed to their physique. The drive to improve. It's just so sexy.

Rob,

Thanks so much for the accolades. And yes, I realize that I've made some great progress and changes in the last few years... but I'm also a information junky. I love learning new things and seeing how applying information effects my physique. So even if you don't pimp my diet.... I'd still love to have you looking over a day or two of foods and perhaps offer some tweaks.

It used to take some courage to post my before & afters. But after hearing people say that it helps inspire them it makes it so much easier. And I TOTALLY agree about women and weight lifting. People ask me what my secret was, I'll tell them about proper nutrition and HIIT and then I tell them (esp. the ladies) that the magic pill is weight lifting. Lift heavy and lift regularly!! I love it... Cause come on, personally I love to eat. And I can eat more when I pack on the muscles...they burn right through those calories. I love the results and the feeling of strength that comes with lifting weights!

Strength and confidence is sexy!

I have the same thoughts around food and training.

I LOVE to eat, so I train hard and use that food to build the muscle and burn off more fat.

Tom Venuto trademarked "Eat More, Burn More" in regards to his burn the fat program.

I'm taking the day off, so I've only made a few comments in here today. Spending the day reading and recovering from my leg workout yesterday. No training, no cardio and no walking today. Just me, my cats and a few books.
