running race this weekend

Postby photogirl67 on Tue Aug 07, 2007 2:05 pm

HI all

I'm running in a 10km road race this weekend. My goal is to finish running and do so in under 75 minutes. I can run 5k in 34min so I figure double that and little bit for walking some segments if I need to. I've not run that far yet ever - not even in training. So I'm a bit anxious about it but I'm going to load up on Sunrider before the race to give me a boost and will drink Fortune Delight during the race instead of water.

Wish me luck!

Hey Darlene

I did a 10km race a few years ago (it was a goal and I have never run since) - ha ha. I managed to not die and complete it in 1 hour and 14 min 13 seconds (Ya the time is ingrained in my mind even though it was years ago - probably because my body keeps telling me "Don't you EVER do that AGAIN! :P ).

Here is a tip I had learned...consume lots of liquids up to the 5km point...after that, you body won't be able to use the water you drink for the rest of the run (obviously drinks lots when you are done).

It felt awesome to meet a goal but I knew I was never going to be a long term runner as I have knee problems... so even though I jest, please don't think that it was really that bad because it was not...I did 10 and 1's (run 10 min, walk 1 min)...and you are in better shape than I was so just run your own race...if you get a chance, look over the last 1km of the race a day or so before...so you can choose a marker to indicate when you are really going to give it everything you have to the finish line - that is when I imagine the crowd was cheering :cheer just for me, I tell myself it is now or never and anything left in the reserves is going to be USED UP!

Tell us the date and time and I bet you will have lots of people sending you good vibes!

Thanks Michele and Jesse

It's Saturday 10am MST

That makes me feel encouraged then if you did 10/1s and had that time. I was shooting for 75 minutes - so if I do better great. I can do 5k no stopping (not 10/1) but not sure I can keep that up for double that.

I'm putting it out there that I can and will do just that. The whole thing - running - no stopping, no walking.

I will hydrate will the night before too and morning of. I'll also eat lots of Sunrider: NuPlus (2) before, a calli in the am and Fortune during the run.

UPDATE

Made my goals! DID finish running (even though legs felt like 6000 lbs of lead) and time was 1:14:09

But I found out from the pacer bunny that the course was actually 11km to the finish line, so technically my 10k time was bang on 68 minutes! My intention was under 75, but I visualized 68:12 for some reason - so yay!!! :cheer

I found the 70 minute pace bunny and was ahead of him most of the race until he past me at 9km. He said they didn't mark them accurately because he kept losing 30sec off pace on each km. So he picked it up on the last 3. I didn't have enough left in the tank to keep up but I did finish running and stayed on my feet!

Thanks for the support guys! Next - 1/2 marathon (what have I done!?)
