The Inner Biochemist

The Simple Weight Loss Solution

Is your drinking water killing you?

The Water Wars – Bottled, Distilled, RO, Alkalized, Structured, and more..?
… So which is it?

Why is it even “brand name” bottled waters can be more acidic that beer, or even coffee?

Why is it that “alkalizing” waters can kill you?

How do you sort this whole mess out?

Once again, we turn to our own Inner Biochemistry for the answers…

I bet you didn’t know…

- there is only one common water process that makes your water higher energy…

- water, just like food, has to be converted to the very unique specific frequencies of your specific body to work…

- only one type of water moves through the membranes of the human body easier than any other type of water…

I’ll give you an quick story why this is so important: recently a few old acquaintances started calling about their “$4000 water filters” and how great “the multiple streams of alkalized water” were… so I asked for the science – never received it – I got on a call and found it was highly unscientific and often dead wrong in what was being taught to the people shelling out all this money – so I did the “acid test” (no pun intended) – I asked for a partial Bronze Plus test on a person whose Inner biochemistry I had already tested – after – they drank this supposedly “life giving – living water”…

You know what?

Their tests came back worse than anyone I ever tested – period – after only a few weeks of using the “living water”. Astonishingly, the only time any test came close was once when somebody was days away from death…

…Not a pretty picture you say?

This is why this brief post – and the future article – could save your life!

So what is this mysterious thing called water? And why is it so mysterious…?

Please print and study this very brief posting repeatedly – once it “clicks” the deeper understandings and “flat earth” to “whole earth” paradigm shifts behind this article will change your life - I hope you will gain a clear understanding (please print and reread this article as many times as you need…) because this has been a major stumbling block for many millions of people around the world when it comes to weight loss…

First Target – is Distilled water good for me?

We will be discussing the pros and cons of all theories on water in a future article (or series). It is important to know that, after many interviews – we have found almost all water “experts” usually rely only on the past, and untested theories (ie. Alkalizing is good), and “common knowledge” (ie. everybody thinks this so it must be true) as their sole sources of information… you’ll see the difference in this brief post, and the forthcoming article(s)!

Remember, this brief discussion is by no means exhaustive…

As my future article(s) on water come out, for more information, I do recommend subscribing for free and Listening to two new interviews about drinking water featuring both Lily Rambo and Dr. Sherrill Sellman on Growth Architect. Also, stay subscribed for more planned water interviews as they come out – definitely “Listen while you work” to all water interviews, by the forth-coming FormerFatGuy blog author :Michael:Earl on www.GrowthArchitect.ca – you’ll be blown away by …some very surprising facts, like how to clearly see – wait for it now – the used toilet paper that is legally allowed in your drinking, bathing, and clothes washing water… and how some Chernobyl victims recovered simply by drinking the right water…

This is a brief comment on distilled water only, from an Inner Biochemistry perspective:

No 1

Only the process of distillation makes the water higher energy…

…when water is vaporised and transformed into steam, it leaves behind all inorganic minerals that were held in the water molecule in a liquid state – this means that the energy it took to hold the inorganic minerals is now freed up so distilled water has a higher energy simply because of vaporisation – the heat of the energy is not lost when steam is cooled in condensation – that energy is still there. In plain English, the added energy which heated the water is still present in the distilled water.

No 2,

water, just like food, has to be converted to the specific frequency of your specific body…

…Because of its high energy it can be converted easier than other low energy waters.

No 3

distilled water moves through the membranes of the human body easier than any other type of water…

…because of this high energy, and because it’s wetter not having the inorganic minerals binding it’s molecules… Water is used to “flush” or remove toxic wastes from our body – including salt, and other metabolic wastes, plus it’s also used for hydration, plus it’s used for taking into your cells all the substances needed from food – and even from supplements.

If your water is empty ie. “distilled” – then it can do each of these jobs a lot better – both the flushing – and carrying minerals into your cells.

The equally important key question most people haven’t learned to ask…

Am I drinking in high energy?

The Electrical charges in my drinking and bathing water:

Hydrologist “Lucienne Vincent” said that “the lesser the micro watt potential in the drinking water, the better…” What creates micro watts in water is inorganic minerals.

Therefore, distilled water for many fits the proper Inner Biochemistry criteria of low minerals, low micro wattage, high energy, and wetter water (viscosity, to be discussed in a future article)

So that’s why I recommend distilled water for many of my patients, depending on the specific inner biochemistry.

Again, as this is a brief post, and as my future article(s) on water come out, for more information, I do recommend subscribing for free and Listening to two new interviews about drinking water featuring both Lily Rambo and Dr.

So what is this mysterious water? And why is it so mysterious? I hope you have some new ideas which lead to a clear understanding (please print and reread this brief post as many times as you need…) as this has been a major stumbling block for many millions of people around the world when it comes to weight loss…

Q: “How do you avoid temptation and food cravings? I heard tea was good.”

Christian M.

A: Thanks for the great question. Food cravings, emotional eating and temptation, the big ones. Brain Chemistry can be affected by diet while emotional eating has many sources.

Avoiding cravings is all about hormone control and hormone control can be improved through diet and food supplements. When we eat a lot of carbohydrates, they are broken down into sugars. Our body’s response is to then crank out insulin which goes seeking for the extra sugar and eliminate it.

More often than not, it works too well and we then experience low blood sugar.

When we have low blood sugar, our body then craves sugar.

Cravings are the hormonal beast in all of us.

Solution:

Reduce or eliminate the starchy carbohydrates in your diet in favor of protein, vegetables and good fats.

You could approach this in a number of ways depending on where your diet is currently at and what sort of food program you follow.

If you eat a great number of starchy carbohydrates such as rice cakes, white rice, white bread, white flour products, muffins, donuts etc, the easy thing is to just switch them or replace them with whole foods. The same goes for simple carbohydrates like soda pop, packaged fruit beverages or other sugary drinks.

Replace soda pop, fruit juices or sugary drinks with water. Your body will thank you for it.
Replace white rice with whole grain brown rice or brown basmati rice.
Replace muffins as a snack with lean chicken and a small salad. Yes, replace the snack with a whole food meal. Muffins are really just cake anyway.
Replace donuts with fresh vegetables or other high fiber food.
Replace white bread with, well… how about just eliminate it. Who came up with this idea about bread being good for you anyway?

Rice cakes… just get rid of them. The only purpose they serve is to make you fat.

Then, break down your daily meals and snacks into 5 or 6 smaller meals that have a portion of protein in each of them. Eat the protein first, then the vegetables, then any sort of grain that you choose, if grains are a part of your diet. You don’t need to eat grains, and may fare better without them. Do a little experiment and eliminate all grains and see how your energy levels and cravings improve. Choose a small salad and add chicken breast. One of my favorites is the Chicken Sonoma Salad from Kelsey’s restaurant without the croutons, but any salad you take to work with you will be fine, just add the chicken breast.

Add Essential Fats into your diet

Choose a balanced omega 3-6-9 Essential Fat blend product and have 1 tablespoon for every 50 pounds you weight. Essential fats are called such because they are, well, essential. Have a listen to this hour long interview I did with Udo Erasmus, the creator of Udo’s Oil and listen to him explain all the health benefits experienced from this one single addition to your diet.

Some benefits of essential fats include:

More energy

Better skin – improve elasticity, improve stretch marks, loose skin issues etc.

Reduced cravings

Balanced hormones, for both men and women. Balanced hormones in women means less mood swings, where in men in means increased Testosterone.

Guys, listen up!

Balanced hormones or more testosterone means more masculinity, improved sex drive, ability to burn more fat and increase muscle size, strength and density. Need more reasons?

Listen to the Interview. It may be the one single thing that changes your life this year! No shit!

Now, if you’re not the type that eats a lot of empty calorie, high carbohydrate foods, then and still have cravings, have a look at how long you go between meals. Reduce the time. You should not really go any longer than 4 hours, and for many people, no longer than 3 hours between meals.

You can also choose to improve the quality of your foods, just following what was outlined above.

Adding in the Udo’s Oil may be just the right thing as well. Give that a shot.

Now, the second part.

What about Avoiding Temptation

Let me ask you this:

“What Do You Want?”

If you’re giving in to temptation, how badly do you really want to achieve your goal?

If your desire is the ultimate physique, whatever that looks like for you, then what is stopping you from achieving it? Some temptation? So here’s another question now,

If you really want it, then plan ahead. Create a solution or a plan that helps you achieve your goal.

If the temptation is simply because someone said “here… have this little bag of Doritos“, or “one little donut isn’t going to hurt“… bullshit!

Some of the biggest reasons for giving in to temptation is because of hunger, because of cravings and because of peer pressure.

If it’s a craving, see points above. I’ll repeat them

Eat smaller meals, more frequently and have protein as the primary ingredient. This helps to balance blood sugar.

Reduce or eliminate simple carbohydrates, and reduce or eliminate cravings.

Make high fiber vegetables the mainstay of each meal. You’ll be full longer and wont make poor food choices.

If it’s hunger, then plan ahead.

Create a system.
Take your food with you. Prepare the next day’s meals before you go to work. If you don’t know what you’re going to eat tomorrow, you’ve got some work to do. Prepare your food the night before, put it into containers and then in the morning, just take it with you. Yes, this is how people who achieve their dream bodies do it. They think ahead and leave little to chance.

If it’s peer pressure
Who is in charge of your life? Your destiny? Your goals?

You’ve got three options as I see it.

Give in. They win

Explain to them that you have a goal and what the goal is. Ask them for support in the goal. Ask them to join you in reaching your goal and you may have a new support buddy. Win-win

Get new friends. Win-win again. You get to surround yourself with people of like mind who support you, the get the same… to be around different friends who are in the same place as them.

The weight loss forum here on the website has turned out to be a great place for support. I heard today from a fellow that “it saved his life”.

Nobody wants to lose friends. Getting in shape is a great goal. It changes your life and inspires others to be better. Your kids have a great role model and then pass the same new habits on to their kids creating healthy, happy and fit grandchildren. You get to learn a lot about the body and how it works, and how it responds to food and physical exercise. It’s a lot of fun and really cool to experience.

I’d first want to try #2.

Inspire your friends to join you
Lead by example, but tell them what your goal is so that they know to support you, however, if you have to, and if they’re not supporting you or wanting you to fail, then are they really your friends?

As for tea… I drink Sunrider Calli Tea exclusively. Works for me.

Cravings for bad food, Emotional eating and giving in to temptation are all things that can be overcome with some simple strategies. Eat smaller meals at regular intervals. Add good fats into your diet. Plan ahead, be proactive rather than reactive. Find a support group or create a new one. Being with one step.. pick one and do it for 21 days to anchor the habit, then add in one more new habit and do it for 21 days. Repeat until they all become a part of you and you will eliminate cravings and end emotional eating.

Q: Ok so I’m following the Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle e-books. I’ve transformed my eating and eat Very well, since January 7th of this year. I joined Bally’s and know how to weight train and use the elliptical like it’s going out of style.

I only have one problem. I haven’t been to the gym in 2 weeks. I have ADD so for me this is par for the course, I start something, I do it great for about a month and a half, or however long, and then I completely drop off.

I have not done that with my eating though because I know how great eating great makes me feel.

So why am I having such a hard time motivating myself into the gym again? I Always feel great when I’m done, and I see good, slow results.

How do you deal with mental blockage in weight loss? I know this is a lifetime commitment and I want to commit to it, but I’m having a rough time. Maybe my self-esteem from being fat for so long is having a hard time letting go to what I’ve always known.

Thanks for any response you can give.

By the way, I’m 30 in 11 days, white female, endomorph, 5’3 and 200 lbs. A good deal of that is actually muscle, I found a fantastic trainer 3 years ago who showed me how to train effectively as opposed to efficiently, but again, I quit after a few months here and there.

Maybe I’m just scared to be slim. Women do get treated like objects when they’re skinny. I don’t want that.

Help!

Rachel O

A: First off, thank you for the question and I’m glad you’ve invested in yourself by getting the Burn the Fat program and are following it. It works.

As for the gym, do you have a personal trainer now? If so, the trainer should be giving you a new fitness program every 6 weeks at least.

For me, I find that changing my program every 6 weeks serves two purposes

1. First and foremost, a change in your program gives your muscles a new perspective on things. Your body will adapt and become used to your program and gains will begin to slow. The body adjusts to new stress, physical and environmental, so switching up your program gives your body new stimulus and it begins to grow again.

2. A change in your fitness program renews interest in it. After about 5 weeks, I begin to get bored with my routine and I truly am excited to start a new program. I get to use muscles in ways I had not before and it’s quite interesting to me to do the new program. If you get bored, switch your program.

The reason I ask if you have a personal trainer is because they do such a good job at creating the program. If they’re any good at what they do of course.

I think this would be especially true if you have ADD, as you have new stimulus.. you may even want to change your exercise program at 4 weeks. Nothing wrong with that at all. This whole concept of changing up your fitness program is called Periodization. I wrote a post about periodization that you can have a look at.
Secondly, what is your reason for doing all this in the first place? What do you want? What is your why?

There is a lot of power in knowing your “Why”

Of all these “Who, What, Where, When, Why and How”, which has the most power?

If you were going to go shopping, none of them matter unless you know “why” you’re going. The rest are just logistics, but without the why….

What is your Why for going to the gym?

Food is your fuel. It’s what lets your body regenerate (or degenerate) from day to day use. No diet in the world is going to get you the ultimate results in shaping your physique without proper weight training.

There are two requirements in getting what you want out of your diet and fitness program and they’re summed up in one of my favorite quotes:

“Every good program requires a plan and sufficient time to implement”

You have to have a plan. How do you know where you’re going if you don’t have a map to get there? You seem to have a goal at least, a lifetime commitment, but to what exactly? If you’re in the gym training to lose weight, what happens when you get to your goal weight? Do you stop training because you reached your goal? I hope not. Is your goal to “lose weight?” After your first week, you lose 1 pound. You reached your goal. Now what? A goal to “lose weight” is not specific enough. Besides, you don’t want to lose muscle or water, you want to lose fat don’t you? How much fat? and by when?

A better goal might be “to complete one hour of training four times a week forever”. The goal is to by physical every other day for life. The goal does not end until you can no longer breathe but the results are improvements in shape, form, health, sleep, immune system response, protection from disease, having a more efficient body, the ability to enjoy life more etc. Simply deciding to train four times a week forever will eventually result in your ideal physique, but it will also continue to support you through the rest of your life.

What is your why for training?

It should be for quality of life reasons as well as vanity. If your why for training is about health, immune system improvements, bone density improvements or any other side effect of training, then awesome. Odds are that you will continue training when you reach your ideal weight.

You say “… having a hard time letting go to what I’ve always known.”

This may be true. This is a belief. Is it serving you? Beliefs are just that, beliefs. You can choose to believe whatever you want and I encourage you to change it.

“if you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right”

Buddha said

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought.” and my mentor T. Harv Eker says “focus on what you want, not what you don’t want”

Reframe your belief that isn’t serving you with one that will

What is it that you’ve always known might I ask? That you’re destined to be fat? That training for a woman will result in large bulky muscles? That exercise just creates pain?

You also say that you feel so good when you’re finished in the gym.

That is what you should be focusing on. I have to be honest. I have to talk myself into going to the gym a lot. I love it, it makes me feel great, it wakes me up, it inspires me to have a great ‘rest of the day’, it makes me sleep better, I’m more positive, once I get moving, I continue to move. However.. knowing all this is not always enough to get me to pack my gym bag and get me into my car.

Women make decisions based on emotion. That is a fact. Men make decisions based on logic. That is also a fact, but we both possess the ability to make decisions either way. When you don’t feel like going to the gym, that is an emotional reason, because you don’t feel like it.. even if you know all the reasons to go.. the logical reasons.

You may very well have to talk yourself into going. Do what you know is logical, even if you don’t feel like it. An object at rest tends to stay at rest, while an object in motion will continue to stay in motion until acted on by an outside force”. Get the gym bag packed, or better yet, have it packed the night before. Don’t think about getting in the car and the drive, and the parking, and what else you could be doing, and just do it. “don’t think, don’t think, don’t think”

Your objective is to simply get to the gym and do a warm up. As soon as you’re warmed up, everything begins to change.. this one simple change in physiology will be enough to move your through your workout. You know you should be training, you know it feels so good when you’re done… you “know all that”. It’s just the initial momentum that you need to push you out the door and into the gym.

This is where your “Why” comes in. Know your why. Write them down and keep them handy. Put them on the fridge, on the dash of your car, on your mirror, on your computer screen and ON YOUR ALARM CLOCK.

I am not a morning person. I do not like going to bed early or getting up early. I have to talk myself into getting up to go do cardio EVERY day. I used to hit the snooze alarm. I’d have to alarms.. one ½ hour or hour early and one at the time I really wanted to get up. I’d hit snooze over and over and over. I even moved the alarm clock across the room so I have to get out of bed to go hit the snooze button.

Then I put a small message on my alarm clock

It reminds me Why I am getting up so early. Now, my Why on my alarm clock is a paraphrase or “catch phrase” that reminds me of my Full Why. It’s my personal reminder to stay awake and not to hit the snooze button and allows me to see my goal first thing in the morning when I wake up.

My reason for wanting to get to 6% body fat is

“to look, feel and be in peak health, with single digit body fat, to inspire others and show them that it truly can be done with the right application of knowledge and to show others that if I can do it, they can do it too”

When I see my message to myself, I turn off the clock, and turn on the kettle to brew my morning Calli tea. I get my gym bag ready while the tea is steeping and then I head to the gym. Once I’m done, I’m awake, refreshed, inspired through the inspirational MP3′s that I’m listening to, and then ready to take on the day. I know that my metabolism has been cranked up and I’m burning fat.

Another time I have to talk myself into going to the gym is on leg training days. Training legs is quite intensive for me. My first thoughts are of the pain of course. However, I quickly switch to my Why for training legs. Legs are one of the largest muscle groups in the body. Training them has a huge impact on your entire physique. Your body has to pump out so much growth hormone to handle the repair, that you burn a LOT of body fat during that repair process. The HGH also affects the rest of your body so that not only are your repairing your legs, but also the rest of your muscle groups. The HGH improves immune system function, lowers stress, improves sleep, makes you look younger and on and on. It’s one of the human bodies most powerful hormones and training legs releases a lot of it. It’s the same reason I love deadlifts… for all the same reasons. To get bigger AND improve quality of life. Plus.. women love men with great legs.

Lastly, I’d like to address this last belief you have:

“Women do get treated like objects when they’re skinny”

Prove that to me would you please?

I do believe it’s possible that some might think that, but I also believe that women are treated with respect because they take the initiate to train their body and stay in peak shape. I admire anyone, male or female that takes the time to train. There is a lot of work and commitment involved. Daily exercise, proper eating habits for your body type, creating of new habits etc.

A skinny woman is not necessarily attractive anyway. Define “skinny”. Thin frail women are not appealing to me. Women who are skinny a lot of time are not healthy looking, not vibrant, where a fit woman, to me at least, looks healthy, energetic and alive. She looks in control, powerful and more like a Goddess. You’re meant to be fit and appealing. Revel in it. Aspire to it. Do it for you, not for the guys. Heavy women can also exude Goddessness (don’t try and look that word up…) as well. It’s an attitude of belief in ones own power.

A good looking man or woman is held in very high regards by myself. Being of the male species, yes, I am attracted to a good looking, healthy female. That’s natural.

I can totally relate to what you’re saying as I too gained 300 pounds to protect myself from women. I had some serious self esteem issues growing up. I gained 300 pounds so I would not have to deal with women or intimacy. It was easier to have them reject me for my weight than for who I am. Regardless of the protection, it simply was not serving me and I nearly died. Well, that was enough. At least you’d think. When I had my “episode”, I committed to doing something about my health, not my weight, and even though I had great success, as I got closer to my goal weight and shape, women were suddenly more attracted to me. When they began to flirt, it freaked me out and I’d binge and gain 30, 40 or more pounds back. Then I’d feel like shit again, and get back on my program. I cycled my weight like this for a few years until I met Harv Eker.

It was through Peak Potentials and T Harv Eker’s Millionaire Mind Intensive that I finally got a handle on my beliefs. What I learned from Millionaire Mind completely transformed my life. It took me to places that I never dreamed possible before. It introduced me to new ideas and possibilities regarding my wealth AND my health. I increased my bench press, asked a girl out, took my home business from $50 a month to $5000 a month and even overcame a belief that I’d never dance sober ever again. You can listen to a Free Millionaire Mind Teleclass and learn more about it if you like.

From the Millionaire Mind Intensive, I went on to take Enlightened Warrior Camp. The theme of Warrior camp is “Act in Spite of Fear, Doubt and Worry“. Warrior Camp gave me the ability to Take Action on things I had previously never really committed to. Nothing stops me from my goals now and after Wizard Camp, I realized that I alone create my reality.

You can continue to believe that you’ll be treated as an object, or you can choose to believe that you’ll be respected for what you’ve achieved. The choice is yours. Change your belief. I highly recommend you take Millionaire Mind Intensive. It’s a $1300 three day intensive program held in various places around North America. I volunteered for years and then was hired to facilitate at the events. It truly changes lives. Harv offers the course for a low introductory price of $97, for which you’re guaranteed a seat as well as getting lots of goodies including a $100 coupon to be used for any courses you decide to continue on with. The $97 simply holds your spot in the seminar. They used to give it away for free, but then they’d book venues to hold as many seats as people signed up for, but then they would not show up. A $97 commitment fee was initiated to limit this. A friend of mine says “something for nothing is good for nothing” and while I partially agree, the point here is that if you’re willing to commit to the $97, you’re most likely going to show up.

You certainly do not have to go to the seminar, but I do recommend it. You come away with a blueprint for creating wealth and most importantly for managing your money. It’s not about money though. Well, it is, but it’s about beliefs. Limiting beliefs. Recognizing them, reframing them and creating success in all areas of your life. Like I said , I finally broke through a bench press belief that I had and got to my goal a short 2 months after taking the course. I also love dancing now, and I’m constantly working on my issues with women. I’m much better now and not afraid of them. In fact, I revel in getting to know women and surround myself with as many good looking women as I can.

If you’re still having issues with “being treated as an object” when you reach your fitness and weight loss goals, know that you may very well be able to kick any of the guys asses, so revel in your fitness, don’t avoid it.

As for ADD, look into essential fatty acids. There is a lot of research that shows many benefits to mental functions when EFA’s are included in the diet. Udo Erasmus, the leading speaking on “good fats” says this about people suffering from mental disorders:

“There is some research on obsessive-compulsive disorder that [says] fats are important. Certainly in depression, [there is] good research and consistent feedback [that says] when people make the oil change we recommend, their mood is elevated and their depression is lifted. Hyperactivity responds, dyslexia responds, clumsiness responds, attention deficit responds… Also, in schizophrenia, there’s less hallucination. People deal with stress better and feel calmer. Also intelligence improves, and there’s research on that – I.Q. goes up by six to nine points.”

I recommend Udo’s Oil, available at any natural food store (you’ll find it in the refrigerator) for anyone who is still breathing. Essential Fatty Acids are just that.. essential. Our body cannot make them on it’s own. I add it to my diet for immune system reasons, skin and nervous system reasons, bodybuilding reasons, fat burning reasons and to increase and improve my testosterone. It’s been a daily part of my diet for years.

1. Come up with your “Why” – Write it down. Make it your mission statement.
2. Focus on getting to the gym and warming up. Once warmed up, you’ll be more interested in training, and once you’ve completed your training, you know you will feel great and have a great day.
3. Change your exercise program at least every 6 weeks to keep things interesting and to support new muscle growth.
4. Choose to change your beliefs. If your belief isn’t supporting you, change it to one that does.
5. Men will only treat you as an object if you let them treat you as an object. Don’t let them. You’re in charge… kick their ass if you have to.
6. Join a support forum and ask to be held accountable for your goals.
7. Add Udo’s Oil or any other Omega 3-6-9 essential oil blend to your diet.
8. Consider attending the life changing Millionaire Mind Intensive. Once you’re at the event, the tuition for Warrior Camp is much lower than if you were to purchase it on it’s own. Go to Millionaire Mind, then go to Warrior Camp.

I hope this answers your question and thank you for asking.

Q: I have never been overweight until after high school. I started gaining around 20 years of age and stayed overweight til I was 25. I started working out at a women’s gym for a year, I was persistent. I lost about 30 and I have kept it off til now. I work out at a coed gym now, they took a body fat comp and my percentage body fat was 20 %. I am around 152 and my goal is 140 but i cant get beyond 150. Lately I have been trying to burn at least 1000 calories 3-5 days a week. I have hypothyroidism but luckily by working out i have increased my metabolism. I still have a lil belly I want that gone! I am 5’7 1/2 by the way. I try to eat a lot of chicken and fish for protein and I drink protein shakes every other day, mostly on the days that I lift. I lift 2-3 times a week. Now that you know my stats and stuff, could you give me some advice? I would really appreciate it! Thank you and God Bless!

Angel

A: So you’ve upped your exercise to burn an extra 1000 calories a day. Have you compensated for the 1000 calories by adding an extra 1000 calories from protein?

When the body is being worked, it has to have the fuel to support it and when it doesn’t get it, the metabolism slows down to conserve what it’s got. Now, adding an extra 1000 calories from protein may be an exaggeration, but the point is that you will need extra calories from somewhere.

We may get results in the beginning as exercise is increased, but eventually it will slow down. The easiest way to deal with this is to not only increase the exercise (or output), but to also increase the calories (the input). The extra calories increase metabolism and increase thermogenics. It’s a two-fold punch.

Most people doing a fat burning program will begin to cut calories, but to cut them more than 15% below maintenance levels (that which is required to keep running your body at it’s current levels of muscle) will slow things down. It’s a very fine line between burning body fat and entering starvation mode, especially if you’re that active in the gym.

Conversely, what people don’t do is increase their calories AND increase their exercise. Exercise will not only build more fat burning muscle, but it also increases the demand for fuel to support that increase in muscle.

I have a client who is a personal trainer. She was struggling with a few extra pounds and wanted to lose them. After telling her to increase her protein consumption, she too did not agree with me and did not do it. Finally she gave in and increased her protein following my advice of 2 extra ounces of lean chicken breast with each of her 5 meals per day. A week later she had dropped 6 pounds.

Metabolism is an amazing function of the human body. It’s been working for millions of years to support our eating habits and keep us alive during times of famine. Where restricting calories slows down the metabolism, increasing calories steps up metabolism to “waste the calories” consumed. Thyroid activity, thermogenics and leptin levels increase during overfeeding.

The composition of your food intake also plays a role. Carbohydrates cause an increase in insulin levels as the food is broken down and turned into sugar (rates of uptake depend of the composition of the meal). Insulin can be a powerful ally in your fat loss, but only under certain circumstances.

Insulin is a hormone produced and secreted by the pancreas. It’s primary function is to regulate the level of sugar in the blood. It also shuttles amino acids and other nutrients into muscle cells, facilitating protein synthesis and promoting anabolism. Insulin can be thought of as a storage and locking hormone. It makes you fat by causing fat storage and it keeps you fat by baring access to fat stores.

Insulin rises due to carbohydrate consumption or when a large amount of calories are consumed at one sitting regardless of their composition. Protein on the other hand has much less impact on insulin creation, but it will if protein is consumed in high quantities.

When the sugar is removed from the body, it is used in various ways:

1. Some is used for immediate energy (instead of fat, which is your preferred fuel source)
2. The rest is converted to glycogen and stored in the muscles and liver
3. Anything else that is left after glycogen storage is converted to triglyceride and transported via the bloodstream to adipose tissue for storage. It’s turned into bodyfat.

When insulin is used for immediate energy as in point one, fat burning is put on hold because “getting rid of excess blood sugar takes precedence”. If the excess blood sugar is not removed things can get really bad ie: death.

It’s a natural process that has been taking place since man first appeared on the planet.

“….anything else that is left after glycogen is stored in the liver and muscles is turned into bodyfat… “

By keeping glycogen stores lower, our body should never have excess glycogen to store as fat. You seem to be doing this by actively doing cardio and weight training at your gym. You’re using up the glycogen in your liver and muscles. You can also cut all starchy carbs for your last two meals of the day. I don’t know what you’re eating as you did not mention that in your email, but by increasing calories in the form of protein, a little at each meal, you provide your body with the nutrients it needs without increasing insulin.

Glucagon on the other hand is an unlocking and burning hormone (the exact opposite of insulin). It mobilizes fat for use as energy, but only does so in the absence of stored glycogen. Glycogen raises blood sugar.

The dark side of Glucagon.

Glucagon is a fat burning hormone and can be a force for good, however, to do it’s job of raising blood sugar, it will in some instances break down muscle to provide that sugar as well as getting it from the liver. Muscle tissue is broken down to provide amino acids for conversion to glucose in a process knows as Gluconeogenesis. If you body is in a hormonal state where it’s a sugar burner, then this can be a bad thing. Conversely, if you’re in fat burning mode, Glucagon is a good hormone.

Using Glucagon To Your Advantage

Eating protein stimulates the pancreas to secrete Glucagon as does not eating anything for several hours. It does this to counter the effect of the drop in blood sugar.

If you’re not eating for a long time, Glucagon will have a catabolic effect (breaking down of the muscle tissue) and is not what we want. To combat this, simply eat more frequently. This is why most effective weight loss programs advise to eat smaller meals more often thereby spreading the calories over a larger time frame as well as keeping your hormones in a balances state to increase fat burning and reduce cravings. As Tom Venuto says, “never go more than 3 hours without eating protein”

So how do you put this all together.

1. Keep training as you’re doing
2. Eat 5 smaller meals throughout the day
3. Add additional protein and good fats to each meal
4. Lower your carbohydrate intake
5. Never eat starchy carbs in your last 2 meals
6. Add more cardio sessions. ie: from every other day to every day.

As crazy as it seems, adding protein and adding good fats are not what people expect to hear, but it works. Good fats in the form of EFA (essential fatty acids) such as Udo’s Oil or any other balanced omega 3-6-9 increase thermogenics as well. Fat has no effect on insulin or glycogen – it’s neutral in that respect. Fat in the presence of insulin is a bad thing however and you should try and avoid eating fat with carbohydrates. Fat with protein is fine.. Fat tends to reduce cravings while carbohydrates tend to increase cravings. Never eat rice cakes for example. They’re the worst introduction to the food chain in the past 20 years.

My bet is that you’re simply not eating enough. Add the extra protein, monitor your results for the following week and two weeks. If you still haven’t broken the plateau, further increase the protein by another 2 ounces per meal.

Thanks for the question, and before I leave it, I’d like to say how sexy it is to hear a woman say the words “I lift”.

____________________

A: Thanks for the question Lauren. To fully understand my answer to this question, I feel that I must describe the events that led me from food combining all the way to Tom Venuto and his Burn The Fat program.

When I first began my weight loss journey back in 1990, I learned about Food Combining. I was about 450 at this point and what food combining did for me was to reset my digestion. Digestion of foods is the most energy consuming thing the body does. By using food combining, I was able to release an enormous amount of energy. This energy went into the cleansing process of my body and I was able to improve my sleep, feel more energized and improve the quality of my skin (after the initial cleansing process).

What I found to be most interesting was the principal of proper fruit consumption.

Harvey Diamond mentions in his book Fit For Life that fruit is a completely separate entity, and within the fruit category, fruits digest at different rates.

What was proposed to me was that fruit is pre-digested and should not be eaten with a meal, or after a meal, but rather it must be eaten by itself on an empty stomach. What I learned was that fruit slides right through the stomach in 20 minutes or less with the exception of Banana’s which take about 45 minutes.

If you eat them on an empty stomach as Harvey suggests, you get full value of all the nutrition in that fruit.

If you eat fruit after a meal, it sits on top of the meal and ferments causing all sorts of issues with your health and in one case caused a non-drinking priest to have enough alcohol in his system to cause liver disease. His doctor told him that he’d have to stop drinking to which he told the doctor that he never touched alcohol. I believe Harvey talked about this in the interview I did with him. (click here for the Harvey Diamond Interview).

It’s the fermentation process of fruit that can cause alcohol in the blood, liver disease and bloating.

I went through years and years of food combining and eventually turned vegetarian which I was for 12 years including 2 years of being Vegan.

Then I had this calling to come back to animal protein. I considered it for about 2 years before making the transition from vegetarian to meat eater and it was the day I spoke with Dannion Brinkley about it that I ate my first chicken in 12 years. Dannion Brinkley has passed away 3 times, 2 of which were from lightning strikes and another from a brain aneurism. I was sponsoring the “news for the soul” radio program of which Dannion was a co-host. I was invited to attend a seminar in Vancouver where Dannion was going to be speaking and where the audience had a chance to ask him questions. Dannion is able to speak to people who have passed over. I never really believed any of that sort of thing without EXTREME proof that would be unmistakable by myself. Kind of like going to a psychic and just saying “tell me about myself” without giving any details.

Dannion had spoke about energy and communications and about death and dying. He told us about how when he died, he instantly experienced every emotion that he ever was involved in while alive. He says that when he hugs people, he give them a hug as if his very life depended upon it because when he dies, he gets all those hugs back and loves it.

So, after the lecture, he started taking questions. People were asking him to speak with loved ones who had passed away and such. I had this question about making the transition from vegetarian back to meat eater. The question I wanted to ask was “how do animals feel about being raised as food?”

I had no attachment to the question. I said to myself “if I get to ask the question, that would be great, but if I am not able to ask him the question, that’s fine too”. There’s a lot of power in letting go of attachment and it’s one of the major concepts that I used to teach at Peak Potentials camps and courses.

There were about 75 people at this event, so I was not expecting to be able to ask my question. Dannion took about 6 questions, then he walked up the isle, stopped at my row, looked over at me and said “you have a question you’d like to ask me”.

If I didn’t truly believe the power of manifestation and non-attachment, this would have stunned me and I would have stuttered my question, but it did not. I had expected it, so I asked my question. What he told me gave me an insight to him and his soul and I realized that I was completely naked in front of him. He told me things that only I knew about and in an instant, everything he had said in the lecture about energy, love, healing, giving etc all came crashing in on me as being the absolute truth.

That evening I had my first chicken in 12 years and I felt great about it. Oh ya, there was a girl involved too. Funny that, making changes to my life for a woman.

In the next few days, I had so much energy coursing through my body. My level of alertness increased, my energy increased, and I felt so grounded. I continued with the chicken and added in salmon.

I have long said that no one specific diet or nutritional program is a correct fit for every person. I am asked this question many times because my website former fat guy presents weight loss programs that contradict one another. I also believe that someone who is overweight or extremely obese has a few phases of new nutrition to go through from the cleansing and regeneration process with calorie restriction right through the addition of weight training and the addition of extra calories including lean protein.

What works for one person does not necessarily work for another. Parts of one program may work, while others don’t, so we should begin to experiment and test and then keep what works and discard what doesn’t. Some weight loss programs may appeal to one person because of how it’s performed. Some people are visual and logical and require or are better able to understand the program if they input their numbers and diet info which then churns out a chart or a meal plan for the user. Some people choose diets based on their ethnic backgrounds or religious / spiritual beliefs. Some want programs designed by doctors while others, myself included, want “natural health programs”. I have not used any medications since adopting a natural lifestyle with the exception of a pain killer after some serious dental work.

There is a lot of information out there about “the best weight loss program”, or the “latest weight loss program” and read through TONS of material. Then they do nothing. They don’t get started. The simplest thing I can tell someone is to take action and not let another day go by without doing something. Stop thinking about going for a walk, and just go do it. My motto and commitment to myself was “think it, do it”. If the idea popped into my head, I’d take action on it.

During my weight loss journey, I tried a number of natural health and natural weight loss principles from various sources and began to apply them. My natural weight loss website has now become a resource for all the methods I’ve tried and used and those that I know about that I recommend.

After adding animal protein back into my diet, I got tremendous results. Body fat began to drop off me again as I was still carrying a little bit after being a vegetarian for so many years. I stumbled upon Tom Ventuo’s Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle program and as I usually do, I tried it.

Tom is an amazing man. His writing style oozes professionalism and honesty. I wrote in my review of his program that I learned one simple step that took my physique to the next level and went on to get into single digit body fat over the course of 6 weeks. I documented it all on my burn the fat review page.

Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle goes completely against food combing. It’s quite the opposite in fact. Chicken and rice and veggies could be one meal for example. This defies all logic that food combining presents. So why did I do it, and why do I still do it?

It’s working for me, that’s why, and it continues to work for so many. It’s founded in logic and the proof is in the pudding.

Food combining works as well, but approaches health from a different angle.

Do I still recommend food combining? Sure. It works too and may very well help people overcome very serious illness.

The interview that I did with Harvey Diamond that lasted for one and a half hours covered a great many of the questions that people ask about the benefits and how it works.

You question asks if food combining would help drop your last 5 pounds and my answer is to try it. You may very well lose the 5 pounds or more, but it might be from a variety of sources, namely the cleansing of your colon of years of waste, or it may be from the increase in energy which melts the 5 pounds. It’s up to you or the reader to try it. Try something anyway. Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle might also be your choice of programs to try because it also works.

If you’ve been on a program for awhile and want to take it to the next level, burn the fat, feed the muscle might be the place that YOU learn that ONE next trick that takes you to the next level as it did me.

The simplest thing to try when you hit a plateau, as you did Lauren, is to simply add more calories to your diet in the form of lean protein. Try adding 2 ounces of lean protein to each of your 5 meals per day. This should increase your thermogenics (heat) and you’ll burn not only the extra ounces of protein calories, but also MORE from the thermogenic effect.

Adding calories may not be something that you’ve ever considered because it’s the opposite of what we’ve learned for so many years, but I’ll tell you that a lot of my readers get results from increasing their calories. It’s due to the fact that as we become more active from cardio and weight training, our body needs more fuel to build muscle and repair and if it’s not getting it, it slows down the metabolism.

A client of mine wanted to drop 15 pounds before heading on a holiday and was stuck. I told her to increase her protein calories and she dropped 6 pounds in two weeks. And she’s a personal trainer!

Try it.
