Rob, I’m looking closely at LED lighting here too. Still a little pricey, but a lot less power hungry.

As for the worm bin, try to keep it close to the kitchen.

Kudos for the clarity of exposing the facts. The anti-CFL lobbyists are going the whole hog to discredit the energy saving bulbs on the grounds that they conyain tiny drops of mercury, conveniently over looking the urgent necessity for reducing Global Warming. I’m going to be looking into the LED bulb’s. Darlene and I were recently at Earth’s General Store here in Edmonton and I seem to recall some info about LED lighting. Also saw a great worm kit for $59 bucks too.

now it’s just the logistics about where to put the worm bin in our house.

That was much less alarmist than just about every posting on Mercury and CFLs. Some of the loudest cries seem to come from sellers of overpriced LED bulbs. One good source of info on LED bulbs that doesn’t try to scare you into buying is http://www.DonsGreenStore.com , and they have very reasonable prices ( for LEDs ) .
